Scholastic Parent and Child Magazine has named the Great
Lakes Seaway Trail as one of its top four Great Road Trips for 2013, selecting
destinations ‘to keep the whole family entertained and amazed.’
The 518-mile Great Lakes Seaway Trail National Scenic Byway runs
alongside the freshwater shoreline of New York and Pennsylvania.
Themes for traveling the leisure driving and boating route
include maritime heritage and lighthouses, nature study, volkswalking,
geocaching, coastal agriculture, quilting, military history, and water fun.
Among the more well-known family attractions on the byway is
the National Museum of Play at the Strong in Rochester, NY. The route also includes destinations, such as Old Sodus Lighthouse Museum, in Wayne County, NY.
