Glens Falls, NY: The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead
in the third inning without the benefit of a hit and stay in front to defeat
the Newark Pilots by a score of 3-1.
Ryan Gray (Trinity), got the start and went 2 hitless
innings for the Pilots but was pulled after he walked the bases loaded. Gray
was charged with 2 runs, only one being earned, and was handed the loss
dropping his record to 1-1. Dan Gautieri (Penn) relieved Gray and got an out on
a force at home before allowing a sacrifice fly to Buddy Putnam which scored
Bryan Ramirez (UTPA) from third. A second run scored on the play as third
baseman, David Vandercook (Columbia), tried to throw out Ramon Laureano (NEO) who
strayed a little too far from second base on the fly ball but proceeded to
throw the ball into Right-Center which allowed Laureano to score.
Andy Cheray (Missouri State), started for the Eagles and improved
to 2-1 as he threw 6 effective innings, scattering 4 hits, striking out 4 and
allowing just a single run in the 5th. A sacrifice fly by Jeff
Edwards (Valpo) which scored Jake Russell (Kentucky). Armand Rugel (Stonehill),
came on in the 7th inning and threw 3 perfect innings as he recorded
his second save on the season.
The Eagles tacked on a 3rd run in the 7th
inning after Josh Anderson (FIU) hit an RBI single up the middle to score Ramon
Laureano from second base.
Newark returns to action on July 1st as they play
host to the Watertown Rams. Glens Falls travels to Albany as the top two teams
from the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League face off for the second time
in three nights.
