The new art show at Books, ETC. contains the work of Sidney Richard Johnson, also know as Canadian magician Sid Lorraine. Sid Lorraine was, among other things, a magician, artist, filmmaker, historian and humorist. Born Sidney R. Johnson in St. Neots, Huntingdonshire, England on April 24, 1905, he immigrated to Toronto, Canada with his family in 1914. He lived in Canada for seventy-five years, passing away in Toronto on October 15, 1989. A founding member of Ring 17 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians in Toronto, he was honored when Ring 17 took the name The Sid Lorraine Hat and rabbit Club. He was a commercial artist, renown illustrator, inventor of magic effects and writer of magic manuscripts and patter books. This show will run from now until Feb 28. A reception for his work will be held this Friday, January 17 at 6:00 PM.
