NEWARK – The World
Day of Prayer, which promotes justice and equality for women through prayer,
partnerships, service and celebration, will take place locally at St. Michael’s
Church in Newark on March 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
A worldwide
movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a
common day of prayer each year, World Day of Prayer is carried out in more than
170 countries and regions. It is a movement which brings together women of
various races, cultures and traditions in closer friendship, understanding and
action through the rest of the year.
On this day, women
affirm that prayer and action are inseparable and have immeasurable influence
in the world. World Day of Prayer’s motto is “Informed Prayer and Prayerful
Action.”
Newark’s Together
in Christ (TIC) group invites men and women of faith of all ages to participate
in the morning’s activities. Refreshments begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a
Bible study in the church at 10 a.m. The prayer service itself begins at 10:30.
An offering will be collected.
“Radical Love” is
the theme this year, as prepared by the WDP Committee of the Bahamas, stemming
from what Jesus said to his disciples after he had washed their feet. “Do you
understand what I have done for you?” He
asked.
We are also asked -- to continue Jesus’ gesture of radical love in our own communities. For information about the World Day of Prayer service, contact Pat Albrecht at St. Michael's Church in Newark, 315-331-6753.
