The Courage Tree
On the Macedon Village Butterfly Nature there is a tree that is very old and gnarled. You can immediately see how it has weathered many, many scores of years. The trunk is twisted and one whole side has split from the tree and angles to the ground. This tree has suffered at the hands of nature and yet survives. It has an innate desire to live and to grow and to produce life and to share with others. How many birds must have nested there—how many small animals have found shelter in its multitude of branches. This tree is a very beautiful symbol of the courage each of us needs to move forward with our lives and to strive for that blessed life with every ounce of our energy. It is a symbol for the beautiful village we have—a community of strength. God help us to survive. Visit the trail and touch this tree and feel the power!
