A Look At The History of the Three Erie Canals - Bruce Schwendy

The three Erie Canals - Clinton's Ditch, the Enlarged Erie and the Barge - have played an important and fascinating role in out local and state history. The canals are surrounded by myth and legend as well as by fact. Bruce Schwendy will sort out the fact from fiction. He will trace the courageous concept of such a canal from its earliest roots in the late 1700's through to its current configuration. In addition, we will be treated to a demonstration of a canal horn used for communication on the Canal, a well as information about Bruce's own houseboat adventure on our waterways.
Bruce is an avid history buff. He is an active member of the Canal Society of New York State and Co-Chairman of it 2015 Winter Symposium held at MCC. In addition, Bruce has authored several authoritative article for the Canal Society.
