“The volunteers working to make Laurel House a reality are so very grateful for this generous seed gift from Masonic Lodge #83 in Newark. And we’re grateful on a number of fronts -- that a local organization recognizes the need for what Laurel House will provide, a comfort care home to care for our Wayne County neighbors who are making life’s last journey and do not wish to die alone, cannot die at home, and would rather not die in a hospital.”
Addyman added “Frankly, the timing of this gift couldn’t have been better. We are in need of start-up funds to get Laurel House off the ground. The Masons’ faith in us will show other community-focused groups, faith congregations and civic organizations that Laurel House is real, is going to happen, and merits support. And I’m personally thankful to Trustees Gil Burgess, Frank Russell and Jim Fagner and the entire Masonic Lodge for their faith in us.”
The genesis for Laurel House began with eight people, meeting in a living room 10 months ago. Laurel House’s mailing list of interested supporters and volunteers is now more than 130 names strong. The next meeting is Sep. 17 at Park Presbyterian Church in Newark, at 2 p.m. All are invited to attend. If any organization would like to host one of our speakers, please contact John Addyman (573-7489). Laurel House, P.O. Box 595, Newark, N.Y. E-mail LaurelHousecomfortcare@gmail.com
