Ithaca, NY; September 28, 2015. New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will present its 2015 New York State Boating Educator of the Year Award to David G. White, in a ceremony in Albany, NY, on Wednesday, September 30 at the SUNY Plaza Gallery, 3534 Broadway. 

Speakers at the ceremony at the SUNY Plaza Gallery in Albany include New York State Parks Marine Services Bureau Acting Director Larry Migliozzi, Albany, NY; and New York Sea Grant Director William M. Wise, Stony Brook, NY.

White was nominated for the state award by the New York Safe Boating program, currently celebrating 55 years of presenting boating safety courses.

Earlier this month, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators recognized White as the Northern States Boating Educator of the Year at its 2015 conference in Wichita, KS.  The Northern Caucus of NASBLA includes Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin; and Ontario, Canada.

White has provided a public service as a certified volunteer boating safety instructor since 1985.

A coastal recreation and tourism specialist with New York Sea Grant, White is noted for building successful partnerships uniting the marine industry, government agencies, community groups, and waterfront stakeholders.

White marks his 31st year of public education extension with New York Sea Grant in the Great Lakes region in 2015. He is housed with New York Sea Grant at the State University of New York at Oswego, NY, 315.312.3042.


New York Sea Grant maintains an office in Wayne County at Cornell Cooperative Extension, Newark, NY.
